Sunday 2nd April 2023

A silent still bright April morning

Silence until

Woodpecker drums

Wren

Chiff-chaff, chiff-chaff, chiff-chaff

Teacher-teacher goes the Great Tit

A Buzzard meows circling in a warming thermal

Distant caw-caw-cawing from the Rookery in the neighbouring farm

Warbling comes from deep in the hedge - Blackcaps are back

Cronk…cronk, our Raven calls to his mate sitting on eggs in a tall dark pine tree at the top of the paddock

Silence again

Folks say the countryside is silent until you listen

Is the Blackbird’s song fairer than the Thrush?

The gentle squeaky bicycle wheel of the Goldcrest gently squeaks faintly from the trees above the garage

Singing Chaffinches and wheezing Greenfinches

Chiff-chaff, chiff-chaff, chiff-chaff

Jackdaws chatter bye

Dunnocks lilt

Then high in the sky she comes, faint and distant at first, then sure and true - like a distant giggle

High above Walls Farm - our first Swallow

Walls Farm is silent

First Swallow
